Trump spooked Pentagon with draft tweet on North Korea: Woodward

Woodward's account was reinforced by an anonymous op-ed by a senior administration official published last week in The New York Times that described staffers working to stave off Trump's destructive instincts.

Trump has talked openly with allies about his suspicion that former national security adviser H.R. McMaster cooperated, suggesting that McMaster likely turned over his notes to Woodward.

If the version of events revealed by Woodward and the anonymous official is true, America is facing a deeply dysfunctional presidency and crisis of governance with no parallel in modern history, apart, perhaps, from the paranoid final days of the Nixon administration.

Famed Watergate journalist Bob Woodward, whose new book paints a picture of turmoil, chaos and infighting in the Trump administration, warned that "people better wake up" to the president's behavior in the White House.

Woodward's book is based on "deep background" interviews, which he defines in his book as interviews where "all the information could be used but I would not say who provided it".

"I wouldn't have used it", Woodward added of the Times opinion column during his first televised interview about his 19th book, Fear: Trump in the White House, which is scheduled for release on September 11.

"He is not putting country first, but putting himself and his ego ahead of the will of the American people", she said.

Before turning back to Trump, the Journal admitted that they too have previously published anonymous pieces, but were unsure if they ever published one of a similar nature.

The piece chronicles the work of the anonymous writer, along with other "senior officials" in the administration, who dub themselves part of a "quiet resistance" to the president to "frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations".

"The Woodward book is a Joke - just another assault against me, in a barrage of assaults, using now disproven unnamed and anonymous sources".

Separately, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement that the essay was "pathetic, reckless, and selfish" and challenged the Times to 'issue an apology'.

Woodward added that in the eight White House's he's covered, he has never heard of such actions.

Asked if Trump is still a credible voice, Sanders insisted he was: "Absolutely". She said the writer should resign from the administration.

Trump's calls for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to investigate the author of the Times article have renewed fears about the President's expansive view of executive power.

Gary Cohn, who was the chief White House economic adviser, went so far past year as to steal an order from Trump's desk that, if the president had signed it, would have cancelled the US-South Korea trade agreement.

She noted that Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo, Mattis and Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, arrived in New Delhi on Thursday for a major strategy summit with leaders of India, the world's largest democracy and a crucial ally.

Trump spoke to the conservative Daily Caller Tuesday after details emerged about the book.

Top White House aides cancelled meetings on Wednesday to come up with a list of roughly a dozen people they suspect of writing the incendiary piece, according to The Washington Post.

Here's the CBS report on Trump's refutation of Woodward's book:What else?

The official reportedly said Trump has always respected Mattis, but now has every reason to wonder what the secretary is saying behind his back.

Brit Hume of Fox News summed up the state of knowledge about Woodward's book after the statements dropped.
