"If you have Donnybrook strawberries at home, or are unsure of the brand, you should return them to the store or throw them away", Young said.

Authorities in Australia on Thursday said they had four confirmed incidents of "contaminated strawberries" after an individual reportedly discovered a needle inside a berry after taking a bite.

"We've got to look at this as a whole, it's a very, very broad picture and we can't speculate in any way, shape or form", Queensland Acting Chief Superintendent Terry Lawrence told reporters on Friday.

On Friday evening, New South Wales Police Force said it believed the contamination may affect six brands of strawberries - Berry Obsession, Berry Licious, Love Berry, Donnybrook Berries, Delightful Strawberries, and Oasis.

It comes after New South Wales mother Chantal Faugeras posted to Facebook images of strawberries she said were bought from a Coles supermarket on the NSW Mid North Coast on Tuesday.

"Police have liaised with retailers to ensure that all stock is removed from sale", police said.

"The contamination relates to what appears to be sewing needles and pins inserted in strawberries".

Mr Michael said the scare could not have come at a worse time, as WA was coming into peak production season, yet consumers were avoiding the fruit as a knee-jerk reaction to the contamination.

'But I would say to people, we produce 800,000 punnets a day and seven needles were found.

An update on the investigation was released amid what authorities said was thought to be a "copycat incident" and provided a photo in relation to it.

Three more punnets were found contaminated with needles on Friday, according to ABC Australia.

The association has previously said it believes a disgruntled former farm worker may be responsible, but police say they are investigating all aspects of the strawberry transit process.

The concerned consumer handed in the infected product to their local police station after they found the three sharp objects inside the berry.
