Reality Check: Is President Trump’s Puerto Rico Tweet Accurate?

Trump says Democrats inflated Puerto Rico death toll

Trump says Democrats inflated Puerto Rico death toll

The report came almost a year after a much-maligned visit to Puerto Rico by Trump two weeks after Maria, where he implied that residents should be "proud" that the official death toll at the time was just 16 people, far lower than that of a "real catastrophe, like Katrina". That figure was then compared to the number of deaths reported from September 2017, when the hurricane hit, to February 2018, when the island still struggled with blackouts and a shortages of essential supplies on the road to recovery.

George Washington University found thousands more people died on the island after Maria than deaths in previous years. But while Spiering is playing semantics as a way to defend Trump's insane rationale, he does also admit that, actually, about 3,000 people did die after the hurricane. "We see it that way". I know probably he doesn't feel that way. "It's kinda like he was on trial for littering, and he said on the stand, 'I only threw that cup out of my window because I was distracted by the homeless man I ran over". He went down there, he did what he did.

"The job that FEMA and law enforcement and everybody did, working along with the governor in Puerto Rico, I think was tremendous". Everybody's panicking. It's not easy.

The report said numerous deaths occurred weeks later because of devastating damage to the Caribbean island's electrical grid that curbed treatment for those with life-threatening injuries or medical conditions. We do feel that they helped us. He then started asking the questions, specifically, "Why don't you call Donald Trump the 'creepy porn president, ' he's the one that had sex with a 4-month-old son at home with my client without a condom". Cora had first-hand knowledge of the storm.

"I hate that people make it a political issue", Cora said before Thursday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. He said it was "about human beings".

But Trump's assertion defies the findings of at least eight different studies that estimated the number of deaths to be at least several hundred, if not more than 1,000.

A report earlier this month by the Government Accountability Office described the government as "down to the bottom of the barrel" in staffing by the time Maria hit Puerto Rico, citing a series of other hurricanes and catastrophic wildfires a year ago that overwhelmed federal disaster responders. "We are confident that the number - 2,975 - is the most accurate and unbiased estimate of excess mortality to date".

On Wednesday, Puerto Rican officials said about 20,000 pallets of water bottles shipped to Puerto Rico after Maria went unused and became too contaminated to drink.

"We're not where we were".

The agency didn't ship the bottles back to the United States for use in future disasters when they were no longer needed because that was "cost prohibitive", Bahamonde said. And I respect him.
