Last month, the Internet couldn't get enough of Rhode Island resident Mary Halsey, who performed a spirited rendition of Missy Elliott's "Work It" during an event in Goddard Park. She freaked out, but quickly regained her composure and they finished the song together before embracing.

"The song had come out in 2002 and it was really popular", she said. Absolutely. Watch the video below!

The video also landed Halsey on Ellen this Thursday, where she explained that she's been performing the song for over 13 years. "And I said, I could do that song - maybe I could try".

Halsey performed the Under Construction single for Ellen's audience before Missy surprised her by making a cameo and rapping alongside her. "The reaction that I got was so positive that it became my go-to song".

"When she first said, 'Missy's funky white sister, ' I'm like, 'Who is this?!'" she said.

Over the summer, Mary went viral with a karaoke version of the hip-hop track, and when Missy spotted the footage, she posted the video to social media, calling Mary her "funky white sister". Elliott was such a fan of her performance that she shared it on Twitter and solidified her status as the artist's "funky white sister". Missy revealed that the mumbled lyrics right after the line, "I put my thing down, flip it and reverse it", are actually that same phrase - only reversed. And if you count her once-in-a-lifetime duet with Missy, Mary had a pretty great day.
