Mike Pompeo: John Kerry's Iranian Meetings 'Unseemly & Unprecedented'

Kerry Admits Meeting With Zarif Several Times, Says Did Not 'Coach' Him

Former Secretary of State John Kerry reportedly met with Iranian leaders and advised them to simply wait out President Donald Trump's hostility.

"What Secretary Kerry did was unseemly and unprecedented", Pompeo told reporters at the State Department. Republican lawmakers have accused Kerry of violating the Logan Act, and President Trump called the meetings "illegal."

"What Secretary Kerry has done is unseemly and unprecedented", Mr Pompeo told a news conference, adding that he "ought not to engage in that kind of behaviour". "He's the first president that I know of who spends more time reading his Twitter "likes" than his briefing books and the Constitution of the United States".

Former Secretary of State John Kerry made a few admissions in his interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt Wednesday. Secretary (Henry) Kissinger has done it for decades with Russian Federation and China.

Asked by a Republican lawmaker during a congressional hearing about the so-called shadow diplomacy, Manisha Singh, an assistant secretary of state, said on Thursday: "It's unfortunate if people from a past administration would try to compromise the progress we're trying to make in this administration". Was he registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act? BAD!

Pompeo on Friday said he saw Kerry at the Munich Security Conference last February with two other Obama officials - former secretary of energy Ernest Moniz and former undersecretary of state Wendy Sherman.

Kerry is in the midst of a promotional tour for his new book, "Every Day is Extra", including stops in Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon, over the weekend. The two were key players in the 2015 nuclear agreement forged by the U.S. and Iran.

"I wasn't in the meeting, but I am reasonably confident that he was not there in support of US policy with respect to the Islamic Republic of Iran", Pompeo said. I've also seen reports that he is apparently providing, according to reports, advice to the Iranian government.

Meetings between a private USA citizen and foreign official are not against the law and not necessarily inappropriate or a violation of federal regulations. "Stay away from negotiations John, you are hurting your country!" he said on May 8.

The latter assertion was a reference to a question Kerry fielded in his Fox News appearance about whether he has told Iranians to "wait out" Trump until there is a new president.

After Donald Trump's election but before he became president and took office, his transition team was accused of reaching out to the governments of both Israel and Russian Federation to undermine Obama administration policies. You know, how does one resolve Yemen? "What I have done is tried to elicit from him (Zarif) what Iran might be willing to do in order to change the dynamic in the Middle East for the better".
