Maurizio Sarri told how to transform Chelsea into a 'sensational' team

Willian: I want an extra five years at Chelsea

Maurizio Sarri has offered an open invitation for John Terry to join his coaching staff but said the former Chelsea and England captain had told him his intention was to play for at least one more year.

Terry is now without a club having left Aston Villa at the end of the 2017-2018 Championship campaign after Steve Bruce's side were beaten in the play-off final by Fulham in May.

Speaking at a news conference on Friday afternoon, head coach Sarri said Terry previously told him he would like to continue playing for another season.

Sarri revealed he has been preparing for the intense set of fixtures over the past few weeks to ensure his side are well prepared to take maximum points, he added: "We have to play seven matches in 23 days, so I had to work". Cesc Fabregas is returning to full fitness but won't be ready to play this weekend.

Steve Bruce has been trying to persuade Aston Villa's new owners to make a move for John Terry.

Maurizio Sarri has claimed he does not see Chelsea challenging for the Premier League title in his debut season in charge, adding that Manchester City and Liverpool are now the main title contenders. "It will be a very hard game for everybody who plays Cardiff". To close that gap in only one season is very hard.

"After considerable thought, I have made a decision to decline a contract offer from Spartak Moscow", Terry wrote.

"Cardiff, in contrast, have not won yet but I don't think their manager Neil Warnock will be too concerned, even if they lose again on Saturday".

"I think we must improve but we can improve, " summed up the Italian, who seems not to believe Manchester United or Tottenham have the quality to claim the title this term.

"My feeling is that now we are not a very solid team in the defensive phase".

'Fortunately, we have very strong young players; (Ruben) Loftus-Cheek, (Callum) Hudson-Odoi, Ampadu, and I'd like to give them the right space.
