Fans get rained on at Brickyard 400

A steady light rain fell from late morning into the mid-afternoon Sunday, forcing NASCAR to a Monday race.

Alas, that's a big chunk of what they're getting for the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard, still known to most as the Brickyard 400. Blaney, Elliott and Austin Dillon already are locked into the 10-race Cup Playoffs, which start next Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. However, given the fact that drying a 2.5-mile track is certainly not the easiest task in the world, there is still no guarantee that the race will get underway today. But rain continued throughout the day and the track was ruled undrivable.

With the starting lineups for both races ordered according to owner points because of qualifying rainouts, Blaney will lead the field to green in the Lilly Diabetes 250.

Johnson is in a 48-race losing streak headed into the Brickyard 400 and his Hendrick Motorsports team has been inconsistent all season.

Both NASCAR races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be run on Monday.

Monster Energy Series Busch Pole Qualifying will follow the Xfinity Series race beginning at 6:15 p.m. ET on NBCSN/NBC Sports App. Cars will be impounded at the conclusion of the session. Cable subscribers can also watch on the NBC Sports app.
