60 Minutes Chief Jeff Fager Out at CBS

Jeff Fager, who was removed from his post as "60 Minutes" executive producer on Wednesday, sent a text to a CBS News reporter warning her that she could face a "serious problem" if she reported sexual misconduct allegations made against him.

CBS CEO Les Moonves also stepped down earlier this week amid sexual misconduct allegations.

He went on to say, "Be careful".

"If you repeat these false accusations without any of your own reporting to back them up you will be held responsible for harming me", Fager replied.

In an internal memo, CBS News president David Rhodes said the departure was "not directly related to the allegations surfaced in press reports".

It was then noted: 'However, he violated company policy and it is our commitment to uphold those policies at every level'. "Similar frustrations about perceived inaction have prompted another woman to raise a claim of misconduct against Jeff Fager". He acknowledged that his language in the text was "harsh", but said that "although journalists received harsh demands for fairness all the time, CBS didn't like it".

Fager said he would not have thought that one note would have resulted in a dismissal after 36 years at the network, "but it did".

In a July story in The New Yorker, journalist Ronan Farrow reported that six former employees told him that Fager would touch employees in ways that made them uncomfortable at company parties, and that in one instance he made a drunken advance toward one junior staffer.

Bill Owens will manage the "60 Minutes" team until a new executive producer is hired.

'Jeff Fager is leaving the company effective immediately, ' read a memo sent to CBS staff on Wednesday afternoon. "Similar frustrations about perceived inaction have prompted another woman to raise a claim of misconduct against Jeff Fager". "I really felt like this was one of the most sexist places I've ever worked", Sarah Johansen, who worked as an intern in the 2000s and alleged Fager groped her, told the New Yorker.

In response to that allegation, Fager told CBS News, "This is an outrageous claim and it didn't happen".

Fager previously served as chairman of CBS News and became executive producer of 60 Minutes in 2003.

"60 Minutes" is the most popular and powerful network news broadcast on television, and Fager is only the second person to lead it during its 50 years of history.
