Wimbledon: Are the stars aligning for another Federer-Nadal final?

Although Federer is approaching peak form, he knows world number one Rafael Nadal - yet to drop a set in his first three matches - and three-time Wimbledon victor Novak Djokovic - playing his way back to his best this week - are lurking as potential final opponents. Something, Austria's junior singles player Jurij Rodionov had to endure past year when he was sent off the court after officials twice checked his underwear on the court and determined it was too dark to meet the tournament's dress code.

Federer's 175th win from 200 career grass-court matches saw him overtake Jimmy Connors as the most successful male player on the surface. However, fellow Australian Nick Kyrgios, who also advanced into the third round following his straight set win over Dutchman Robin Haase, believes De Minaur may give the No. 2 seed a bit of a scare.

What should I read next?

Nadal, who also is yet to drop a set this year, faces Czech Republic star Jiri Vesely on Centre Court on Monday.

A throng of photographers gathered, as did a sizeable contingent of players, coaches and journalists, to see if it would actually happen.

"First time I have been on a court with him and just his presence, as well".

"Against big servers who go for a lot it's always hard to find rhythm and be sure that you are in driver's seat until the match is over", Federer said.

"A couple of guys pretending they were coughing and whistling while I was bouncing the ball more or less to the end of the match", said the former world number one. I can't compare myself to his style, that would just be arrogant.

Nine of the top 16 seeds in the men's draw were eliminated in the first three rounds, and the carnage is even worse in the women's draw, as one of the top 10 seeds remains in contention entering the second week.

The world No.1 looked in ominous touch throughout the first two sets.

The 38-year-old American, last year's runner-up, was the oldest women's singles entrant in 2018.

Federer has won a staggering 20 Grand Slam titles and is bidding to secure his ninth triumph at Wimbledon this week.

"But I always say the same. You have to win the last point, and I didn't succeed in that today".

The path to a 24th major is clear for Williams, who is the top player left in the women's draw despite the No. 25 seed next to her name. "But if I am in the final, will be great news".

While he is excited to face the 17-time Grand Slam victor, the Aussie is claiming it's business as usual.
