The 40-year-old Henry, the Arsenal legend who won the World Cup with France in 1998, is an assistant to Belgium coach Roberto Martinez in Russian Federation.

France will face Belgium in the first semi-final clash at the Saint Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday after the two sides beat the South American contingents from Uruguay and Brazil respectively. I don't resent him. My job is to be good on the pitch, to represent France as well as possible.

"Unfortunately our dream has been postponed, and it is very painful for all of us that after so much work and dedication on the part of each player, technical commission, and staff, there is enormous pain", he wrote.

"Since we've been working closely together, I think I've raised my game twice as much than what I thought I could do, and I owe him a lot, a lot in the last two years".

"I would have preferred to have Henry on our side, to give me and the other French forwards advice, but I am not too jealous".

Henry is France's top goalscorer with 51 from 123 matches, while Giroud - who Henry has criticised in the past - is fourth on the list.

The win over Mexico in the second round cemented them as tournament favourites and it looked like they were just getting into the swing of things, only to be chopped down by Belgium.

Belgium were seen as underachievers at that point, particularly after losing to Wales in the Euro 2016 quarter-finals.

Martinez claimed a lot of the credit for the win as his tactical changes worked to perfection, including moving Kevin De Bruyne into a more advanced role.
