Extreme heat warnings have been issued across southwestern Ontario

The agency says that beginning Saturday and continuing throughout the Canada Day long weekend, daytime highs are forecast between the low thirties into the mid forties with humid values factored in.

Environment Canada advises that there is still uncertainty regarding when the heat event will come to an end, as current indications suggest the heat could continue into the middle of next week.

The agency also says overnight low temperatures will only fall to the low 20s, providing little relief from the heat. "The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors".

Toronto's medial officer of health has also issued a heat warning for the city.

Cooling centres are being set-up and public pools will extend their opening hours late into the evening to accommodate people without air conditioning in their homes. The team says a number of additional water stations will be available throughout the stadium to ensure fans stay hydrated.

In Ottawa, organizers are watching the weather to decide if the annual Canada Day show will take place on Sunday, Canada Day, July 1st.

Stay connected with people in your community who have a hard time coping with hot weather and those who live alone and check on them regularly.

Meanwhile, Metrolinx is warning riders to expect delays throughout its system due to the possibility for heat-related slowdowns.

The temperatures will be "sultry" and "oppressive", he told CTV Barrie on Thursday.
