The pair have joined James Corden and Ian McKellen in a newly announced film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Broadway hit Cats, according to multiple trade reports.

After the breakout role of Effie in 2006's Dreamgirls, Hudson is now taking on Grizabella, the former glamour cat who sings one of the musical's most widely recognized numbers, "Memory".

Working Title and Universal's much-discussed movie adaptation of the hit Cats musical has grown some sizeable claws.

The film will be directed by Tom Hooper, who brought Les Misérables to the screen in 2012, and who has also directed The King's Speech and The Danish Girl.

Brit tabloid The Daily Mail first reported the castings with Oscar-winner Hudson reportedly in line to play Grizabella.

Taylor has the least big screen experience, but she appeared alongside Hollywood legends Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges and Katie Holmes in 2014's The Giver as Rosemary.

Based on poems by T.S. Eliot, "Cats" tells of a feline tribe - in human form on stage - called the Jellicles who decide who among them will make a fateful ascent into a new life.

It's unclear what part she will play in the movie, which will begin filming later this year in the UK. It's one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history.

Tom Hooper - who directed 2012's Les Miserables film adaptation - is set to helm the adaptation, which will start filming in the United Kingdom later this year.

The Royal Ballet's Wayne McGregor had previously been announced as the film's choreographer, while Billy Elliot's Lee Hall is reportedly on board to write the screenplay.
