New Regency has won an auction for "Rub & Tug", an "American Hustle"-like movie starring Scarlett Johansson and directed by Rupert Sanders, sources confirmed to Variety".

It's based on the life of Jean Marie Gill, a crime boss also known as Dante "Tex" Gill, the 1970s owner and operator of several massage parlors in an otherwise mafia-controlled Pittsburgh industry. "Gill", and "may even have undergone the initial states of a sex change..."

The 33-year-old actress said in a statement to Bustle: "Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman's reps for comment".

Needless to say, that didn't solve the problem... Cast actors WHO ARE TRANS as NON TRANS CHARACTERS.

Members of the LGBTQ community and their allies saw the casting as insensitive because they preferred that a transgender role be played by a transgender actor.

"Scarlett Johansson is gonna work with Ghost in a Shell director again and this time she's playing a trans man i cant breathehrkfkg", wrote one astonished observer.

Johansson's comment referred to other actors and actresses who have been critically acclaimed for their portrayals as transgender characters in recent years.

Johansson and director Sanders were accused of "white-washing" in 2017 when she played a character in Ghost In The Shell originally written as Asian in the poorly-received manga remake.

Giving voice to some of the criticism of the casting that has begun to appear on Twitter, #OscarsSoWhite creator April Reign called for Johansson to step away from the role, tweeting, "Scarlett Johansson is not hurting for money".

Now, Johansson's casting as a character with a different gender identity in Rub & Tug has provoked fresh ire.

"Diversity is important in Hollywood, and I would never want to feel like I was playing a character that was offensive", she said before defending her decision to star in the film.
