Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Manchester City are reportedly close to landing Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez this summer.

The Citizens have announced the signing of Algeria global Riyad Mahrez from Manchester City.

The Algeria worldwide handed in a transfer request in January, but having failed to seal a move to the Etihad Stadium, the 27-year-old was initially told to stay away from first-team training for a 10-day period by his employers.

"I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola", the Algeria worldwide told the official club website.

'Watching them from afar has been a pleasure.

"I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola. They're redefining the English game and I wanted to be a part of it", Mahrez said on his new club's website.

City director of football Txiki Begiristain is confident Mahrez will prove a valuable addition as the champions look to mount a successful defence of their Premier League title and succeed in Europe. Have your say in the comment section below.

His arrival at the Etihad ensures the end of a lengthy pursuit by Guardiola, the City manager, who was left frustrated by Leicester's hardline stance in the January transfer window.

"Riyad is a hugely talented player. We're sure he will bring additional attacking quality to our squad".

He will compete with Sane, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva for a place in City's powerful front line, with strikers Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero also available.

Mahrez's introduction in the attacking areas will allow City to rotate further as they attempt to go further in the Champions League and become the first club in a decade to defend the title.
