Mark Zuckerberg tops Warren Buffett to become world’s third-richest person

Mark Zuckerberg has eclipsed Warren Buffett as the world's third-richest person.

Amazon's Jeff Bezos, worth about $141 billion, is first, followed by Microsoft (MSFT) founder Bill Gates, according to the Bloomberg index.

Buffett, the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A), and once the world's richest person, is now No. 4, at $81.2 billion. Zuckerberg is worth an estimated $81.6 billion, about $373 million more than the 87-year-old Buffett. Zuckerberg had to face Congress and take full-page newspaper ads to apologize for the data privacy scandal as the #DeleteFacebook movement emerged. "This was a breach of trust, and I'm sorry we didn't do more at the time".

As per a Fortune report, investors are loving Facebook and are happy at the news that Facebook has made its biggest sports streaming deal yet with the Premier League.

Facebook stock closed at an all-time high of Friday, ending the day at $203.23 up 2.41% on a rally that shows that investors love the social network more than ever.

The shift is fresh evidence of the growing fortune of those in the tech industry, with the three wealthiest individuals on earth making their money from technology. Technology assets make up about 20 percent of the more than $5 trillion in wealth tracked by the index, which is more than any other business. Apple is now one of Berkshire's largest holdings.

Buffett, who once ranked as the world's wealthiest person, has now slid down to number four, largely in part to his charitable giving. Zuckerberg also pledged to donate 99 percent of his Facebook stock.
