Known for his marathon matches, the ninth-seeded Isner lost to the eight-seeded Anderson in a grueling six-hour-and-36-minute match, with the final set alone lasting for almost three hours. John´s a great guy.

Anderson, who graduated from the University of IL, came through another marathon match to beat Roger Federer in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, winning their fifth set 13-11.

In the third set, the 33-year-old American fended off two set points and won the tiebreak 11-9.

It marks a first grand slam final for Anderson.

Ultimately, it was Anderson who prevailed, taking the match 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 26-24.

Again, the pair traded breaks early in the fourth, but Anderson broke and eventually served it out to take the match into a decider after three hours and 40 minutes.

As it became clear that Isner was due for another endless fifth set, tennis fans were far from delighted. It was a drama filled set that went back-and-forth, similar to the third set.


Isner then fell behind 0-30 three separate games on his own serve, including facing one break point, before coming back to hold.

The two are meeting for the second time in ten years.

Nadal, the 2008 and 2010 champion, trails Djokovic, the 2011, 2014 and 2015 victor, 26-25 in a rivalry which began at Roland Garros 12 years ago.

As a result, where wasn't much aesthetics involved and the longest rally during the whole match was nine shots but both men had their moments of brilliance, with Anderson impressing with some of his backhand winners.

Nadal, 32, is back in the semi-finals at Wimbledon for the first time since 2011 when he finished runner-up to Djokovic.

Djokovic, meanwhile, is seeking a fifth final at the All England Club and 22nd at the Slams. We played each other in college probably three, four, five times.
