News of Knights death was first released by Lorenzo Mata, former UCLA player and teammate of Knight, on his Twitter account.

Former UCLA Bruins basketball player Billy Knight was found dead in Phoenix on Sunday after apparently committing suicide. Phoenix Police responded after Knight was found by Phoenix Fire and pronounced dead. The Phoenix do not suspect any foul play in Billy's death. The official cause of death is yet to be confirmed. "I just ask God for forgiveness for all the wrong I've done". I lied. I cheated. He said in the video that it was probably his "last message on earth". I isolated myself from my family members. I isolated myself from my friends, and that's not something you should do. If this happens, you probably have a mental illness.

"I hear voices in my head constantly".

"Mental illness is serious".

"I was a taker", Knight says. He urged people with problems to get help.

Knight cited his religion, saying "I am sorry, Lord", and acknowledged that he could end up in heaven, hell or somewhere in between.

Earlier Sunday, TMZ reported, Knight posted a six-minute video to YouTube that was an apparent suicide note.

UCLA's basketball program issued a statement saying, "Our hearts are heavy after learning Billy Knight has passed away". "We ask that the Bruin family keep Billy's loved ones in their thoughts during this hard time".

Knight played for the Bruins from 1997-2002 alongside former National Basketball Association players like Matt Barnes and Jason Kapono. Following his playing career, he would become a basketball operations assistant for the G-League's Northern Arizona Suns, an affiliate of the Phoenix Suns, from 2016-2017.
