Scalise Embarrassing that Dems were acting like 'cheerleaders' for Strzok

Strzok, a senior Federal Bureau of Investigation official who oversaw counterintelligence cases, was removed by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III from the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election after Justice Department investigators discovered text messages between him and Lisa Page, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer, that were critical of President Trump.

"There is new information we've been able to gain today", Representative Mark Meadows said of the closed-interview, which lasted about four hours.

In a 10-hour marathon joint hearing between the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees on Capitol Hill Thursday, senior Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok began his testimony on the offense. Strzok's lawyer said he was escorted from the Federal Bureau of Investigation building last month as the disciplinary process proceeds.

Her lawyer said Page had offered to voluntarily appear before the committees later this month but needed more clarification about what the lawmakers would be asking.

The hearing exposed clear partisan divides in the House judiciary and oversight committees, as Democrats accused Republicans of trying to divert attention from Trump's ties to Russian Federation by excessively focusing on Strzok.

Goodlatte eventually let the hearing of the body's judiciary and oversight committees to proceed without calling the panel into recess.

Strzok insisted under aggressive questioning that a much-discussed August 2016 text in which he said "we'll stop" a Trump presidency followed Trump's denigration of the family of a dead USA service member.

Democrats led by top Judiciary Committee Democrat Jerrold Nadler of NY on Friday continued to cast the Republican-driven effort as a campaign to undermine Special Counsel Robert Mueller's inquiry into Russian meddling and whether anyone in the Trump campaign was involved in it.

Page did not speak to reporters as she arrived for her closed-door interview, which Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyers also attended. "What does Trump support smell like Mister Strzok?"

"They should not be on camera", she said. "I certainly hope there aren't too many Peter Strzoks there because somebody who can tell us under oath that this doesn't indicate at least some bias".

Strzok said some of his messages featured normal conversational "hyperbole", which Gowdy said was "inappropriate" for someone who is supposed to be "dispassionately, neutrally investigating" the subject of those texts.

"I can't help but wonder, when I see you looking there with a little smirk, how many times did you look so innocent into your wife's eyes and lie to her about Lisa Page?" he asked.

FBI Director Chris Wray says employees who were singled out for criticism in the report have been referred to internal disciplinary officials. But the Federal Bureau of Investigation was here providing counsel and giving her direction about which questions to answer or not answer. But Gaetz said no attorney-client privilege was actually cited during the interview.
