Fallout 76 Also Won't Have Cross-Play and It's Sony's Fault

Currently, cross-play between PS4 and other consoles, most notably Switch and Xbox One, isn't possible.

When asked by German publication GameStar.de about the potential for Fallout 76 Cross Play, Howard did away with corporate nuance and directly called out Sony's unwillingness to aid developers. "That's what we're building on right now, that's where our mind is, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't exist on the current systems as well".

Bethesda has been a great supporter of Nintendo Switch so far, but many are hoping a Fallout title will make it onto the platform. Will we need to buy new hardware to play the game? Fallout 76 won't have cross-platform play, and Bethesda says it's because Sony won't play ball. "But it has a lot of new systems we've been thinking about for a while that fit that kind of game really well". Sony Interactive Entertainment America CEO and president Shawn Layden talked about the issue with Eurogamer at the Gamelab conference in June and said the company is listening to its fans and is "looking at a lot of the possibilities". "I'm confident we'll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business".

It appears Sony has softened its stance on crossplay in recent months, although we still have a long way to go until we see such features implemented across all platforms.

Last week, Bethesda's Todd Howard was open and honest about the problem with Fallout 76 and its causes.
