Facebook is shutting down tbh, Hello and Moves due to "low usage"

Moves was originally launched in 2013, and Facebook acquired the app for an undisclosed sum in 2014.

A lot can change in less than a year. The three app have been acquired or are Facebook's own creation: Hello, Moves, and tbh. Last but not least, tbh is another app acquired by Facebook past year, an anonymous social media app for high school students in the United States.

Facebook announced it would buy the three-month-old app in October 2017, with many people interpreting the move as a way for the social network to reach a younger, more fickle demographic.

"The low usage stats cited by Facebook as a reason for the closure point to the challenge of running a long-term service based on anonymous interactions, which can struggle to drive sufficient engagement beyond a niche audience". "We regularly review our apps to assess which ones people value most", the company wrote in a blog post that managed the rare feat of combining a pun headline with bad news. Sometimes this means closing an app and its accompanying APIs. "With Facebook's resources tbh can continue to expand and build positive experiences". Only bought by Facebook eight months ago, the company was set up to create a positive app for teens immune from the cyberbullying of Yik Yak or Secret.

"We need to prioritise our work so we don't spread ourselves too thin. And it's only by trial and error that we'll create great social experiences for people", the social networking and advertising giant said in its announcement.

The closures come at a time when Facebook is clearing house.

The company announced that it is discontinuing three of its mobile applications.

Facebook also reassures users that user data from all the apps will also be deleted within 90 days.
