The legal battle between Cardi B and her former manager is heating up.

Heavily pregnant American female rapper Cardi B has filed a $15 million countersuit against estranged manager Klenord "Shaft" Raphael. The documents say that Raphael originally agreed to get 20 per cent commission but after Cardi got a publishing deal with Sony music, he demanded 50 per cent.

The lawsuit filed by District Attorney Paul LiCalsi in NY stated Shaft used Cardi B.'s money for leisure such as "personal travel, entertainment and expenses" and his staff withdrew "loans" without the star's consent. The control extended to who she chose to date.

The 25-year-old rapper has made a decision to launch a counter-suit against Klenord Raphael - who is more commonly known as Shaft - on the basis that he exploited her and tried to maintain control over her career and personal life. Shaft allegedly tried to manage who she could or could not see.

The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages of $5 million, punitive damages of $15 million, rescission of the management agreement and the KSR Recording agreement and payment of all attorneys fees, among other requests. This is the same record label that signed rap group the Migos, of which her husband Offset (real name Kiari Kendrell Cephus) is a member.

Shaft first sued Cardi back in April after she left him for new representation.

The complaint, which can be read in full here, states: "Ms. Almanzar entrusted Shaft and his related entities with many aspects of her professional and business affairs and that trust was abused". While he is proud of their successful collaborations as she evolved from Instagram influencer to music megastar, Shaft is disappointed by her actions to freeze him out of her career, which are detailed in the complaint. Leonard is listed as a co-writer on Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow".

The plaintiff attorneys did not immediately respond to a Law&Crime request for comment about the counterclaim Thursday afternoon.
