CAPITOL CLASH: Peter Strzok to be 'RECALLED FOR CONTEMPT' After Fiery Testimony

FBI Agent Peter Strzok, who was removed from the special counsel's investigation of Russian involvement in the 2016 USA elections, testified before a joint hearing of two House committees.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Thursday criticized Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform and House Judiciary committees, saying she "wouldn't want to be a Republican on that committee" when Rep.

The hearing was punctuated by chaos and open yelling as Judiciary Committee Chairman Robert Goodlatte said Strzok needed to answer Republicans' questions and suggested they might recess the hearing and hold him in contempt. Democrats objected to Goodlatte's repeated attempts to get Strzok to answer.

"Lisa Page has finally agreed to appear before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees for a transcribed interview tomorrow", Goodlatte said in a statement.

Ultimately Strzok responded to a question from Gowdy about the early portion of the Russian Federation investigation by defending his own work and the work of the FBI.

Strzok insisted under aggressive questioning that a much-discussed August 2016 text in which he said "we'll stop" a Trump presidency followed Trump's denigration of the family of a dead USA service member.

Democratic Representative Luis Gutierrez said when it was his turn to question Strzok: "Congratulations Kremlin, and congratulations to everyone who is helping them".

As Republicans asked multiple questions about the Russian Federation probe, Strzok repeated that he would like to answer the question, "but at the direction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, because it relates to an operational matter, I can't".

"I hesitate in part because of my gut sense and concern there's no big there there", Strzok said in the text. He said the text, written late at night and off-the-cuff, reflected his belief that Americans would not stomach such "horrible, disgusting behaviour" by the presidential candidate.

This is the second time Strzok has testified in front of the Committees. And particularly damaging was the fact that, according to unnamed United States officials, Strzok played a role in changing former FBI Director James Comey's wording regarding how she handled classified information from "gross negligence" to the noncriminal "extremely careless".

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who will meet with Trump in Helsinki on Monday, has repeatedly denied US intelligence agency conclusions that Moscow interfered in the campaign and tried to help Trump.

"Lisa has cooperated voluntarily with another congressional committee that had no objection to explaining the scope of its investigation or providing sufficient notice for her interview".

"Let me be clear, unequivocally and under oath: Not once in my 26 years of defending my nation did my personal opinions impact any official action I took", Strzok told the committees.

The controversial texts first came to light in December, when it was revealed that special counsel Robert Mueller dismissed Strzok from his team the previous summer upon learning of the messages. He also said he had never contemplated leaking damaging information he knew about the Trump campaign. Strzok has denied those allegations, pointing to an inspector general's report focused on the Clinton probe, which found no evidence Strzok's apparent bias affected his decision-making.

Rudy Giuliani opened up a new front late Thursday night in his war against Special Counsel Robert Mueller, saying that his entire Russian Federation probe should be tossed out because a former key investigator's "pathological hatred" of Donald Trump has tainted everything in his path.
