Global Citizen Festival to take place 2 December 2018 at FNB Stadium in honour of Nelson Mandela

A host of activists, stars and world leaders will head to South Africa in December for the 2018 Global Citizen Festival. The concert, which will be held at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the anti-apartheid leader and Nobel Peace Prize victor, organizers announced early Monday.

The Global Citizen Festival rallies musicians, politicians and thought leaders to influence citizens on a global scale and take actions that influence government policies. Ticket-acquiring methods will be detailed further August 21.

The December event is the culmination of Global Citizen's Mandela 100 campaign in partnership with the House of Mandela; a series of global events honouring the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela in his centenary year.

Cassper Nyovest, D'banj, Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, Femi Kuti, Pharrell Williams & Chris Martin, Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage, Usher and Wizkid will also perform at the event.

Global Citizens, the advocacy organisation behind the festival, has already secured over $2.9 billion this year to help benefit the lives of 500 million people by 2030.

"I'm looking forward to partnering with Global Citizen again, this time in South Africa!" The festival will be celebrated over 6 months in line with the United Nations sustainable development goals.

Local fans are losing their mind as they scramble for tickets but attendees have been informed that tickets are free of cost.

"Nelson Mandela's life story is a testament to the power of the human spirit and one man's ability to change the world by standing up for what he believed in", Oprah Winfrey said to The Global Citizen. "Performing at Global Citizen Festival is a small tribute to his legacy and I can not wait to take the stage in December".
