The military said it will "continue to operate determinedly and decisively against any attempt to breach Israeli sovereignty and will act against any attempt to hurt its civilians".

Israeli leaders have recently reiterated that they expect Syrian President Bashar Assad and his Iranian-backed allies to honour the agreement which sets out a demilitarized zone along the frontier and limits the number of forces each side can deploy within 25 kilometres (15 miles) of the zone.

According to The New Yorker, Israel has joined forces with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and suggested to Trump that the USA should offer to cancel the sanctions it imposed on Russia four years ago, following Russia's annexation of the Crimea, in exchange for Russian action to remove Iranian forces from Syria.

On Thursday, the Israeli military targeted Syrian military positions in response.

Lebanon's Shiite Hezbollah group is accused of the carrying out the bombing of the Jewish center and an attack on Israel's embassy in Buenos Aires on March 17, 1992, at Iran's order.


Velayati was also present at a meeting of top Iranian security officials in the city of Mashhad on August 14, 1993, where the decision to bomb the AMIA building is understood to have been made.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who views Iran as Israel's arch-enemy and strongly backs Trump's decision to quit the nuclear deal, was also visiting Moscow on Wednesday.

In recent weeks, Israel's military has been on high alert over the Syrian regime's offensive in the southern and southwestern parts of the country.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced Thursday the "raising of the flag of the Syrian Arab Republic in the public area in front of the post office in Daraa al-Balad", a district of the southwestern province of Daraa.

As various rebel alliances fractured and jihadi forces such as the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) took over, however, the USA began to shift its priorities in the conflict and Russian Federation intervened in support of Assad and his Iranian ally. The Syrian government has in the years since managed to secure most of the country, with about a quarter remaining in the hands of the US -backed Syrian Democratic Forces, a largely Kurdish coalition that has also fought with Syrian rebel groups.
