"I think I do like that when we come back and do tell the next chapter of the Ant-Man and the Wasp story, it does give us room narratively to really develop their characters in a way that I think is definitely more challenging to do in the larger ensemble movies".

Next up, ScreenCrush put together a list of Easter eggs and comic book references from Ant-Man and the Wasp you might have missed.

"Ant-Man and the Wasp" is Marvel's third and final film in 2018 and caps off the biggest year at the box office for Disney's superhero studio.

While that figure is below what was originally estimated, worldwide markets reported healthy numbers with the biggest debut being Korea with $20.9 million, followed by Mexico with $6.7 million, and Indonesia with $5.6 million. So far, Incredibles 2 has made $773 million at the worldwide box office. Internationally, "Incredibles 2" has made $269 million. The Pixar sequel is now just shy of topping Disney's Beauty and the Beast to become the 11th highest grossing domestic release of all-time and should have no problem moving into the top ten. France quickly ranks as the sixth largest market for Incredibles 2 behind China ($48.7m), Mexico ($33.8m), Australia ($24.6m), Brazil ($15.4m) and Russian Federation ($14.3m). In the last two years Marvel has released six films, and all of them have managed to make at least $850 million globally, with two of them making over $1 billion.

Rounding out the top five were Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The First Purge, and Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which earned $28.5 million, $17.1 million, and $7.3 million, respectively.

Internationally, after crossing $1 billion at the global box office on Friday, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom added an additional $27.6 million overseas this weekend, bringing the film's worldwide total to $725.3 million for a global cume totaling $1.058 billion.

"Incredibles 2" also opened before "Fallen Kingdom" in the USA, and that helped it just reach a big milestone - passing the $500 million mark at the domestic box office. It opened on July 4 to get a head start on the long weekend, for a five-day total of $31 million. Particularly following 2016's "The Purge: Election Year", the franchise has made satirical jabs at social commentary. Gerard McMurray directed the $13 million film, which was written and produced by James DeMonaco.

It also speaks to audiences.

New offering "The First Purge" launched overseas with $10.9 million in 26 markets, including $2.2 million in the United Kingdom and Ireland, $2.1 million in France, $1.5 million in Germany, and $1.1 million in Spain. The weekend's other new wide release was Blumhouse Productions' "The First Purge", the fourth film in the low-budget horror franchise about an annual 12-hour period of lawlessness. "Ocean's 8" releases in Italy on July 26 and lastly in Japan on August 10.
