US Open setup relies as much on science as instincts

Woods cruises into New York in his $20m yacht ahead of US Open

As Tiger Woods chases his first major championship in a decade at the 2018 U.S. Open, he won't be heading to a house or hotel at day's end to recuperate.

Woods has been stuck on 14 career majors since winning the 2008 U.S. Open, his third career victory at the tournament.

Since returning to the PGA Tour in December of a year ago, Woods has climbed his way back up the FedEx Cup rankings to 50th in the world.

The yacht, named "Privacy", is docked at Gurney's Yacht Club in Montauk, a luxury resort roughly 26 miles east of Shinnecock Hills.

If Woods wants to have company-which he's obviously been known to do-he'll have ample room for it in the 6,500-square-foot yacht's master suite or in one of its six other bedrooms. It's not the first time he's done this-he also pulled the Privacy into a marina for the U.S. Open in 2006. She apparently made numerous interior design choices for the sleek vessel, like the dark cherry wood, marble and leather furniture.

Woods bought the boat in 2004 after his marriage to Elin Nordegren and the couple reportedly spent their wedding night on the yacht.

The vessel also includes a gym, movie theatre, full bar, eight-person hot tub and a scuba decompression chamber.

Woods tried to sell the yacht, which has entertained friends including Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, and Michael Jordan, in 2011 but couldn't find a buyer.
