White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow gives a thumbs-up in Beijing

Top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow suffered a heart attack and is being treated at a Washington area hospital, President Donald Trump said in a tweet. "He is now in Walter Reed Medical Center", President Trump wrote on Twitter.

Kudlow, though only on the job since March, has become a popular figure in the White House who is known for gregarious and seasoned manner in an administration frequently riven by rivalries and disputes. Ironically, Kudlow opposed the tariffs as well, writing an open letter to Trump saying such a protectionist move is nothing but a tax hike in disguise, that gets passed on to consumers at the cash register.

During internal White House deliberations this spring, Mr. Kudlow argued in favour of cutting a quick deal with Canada and Mexico to resolve NAFTA renegotiations, said sources with knowledge of the confidential talks.

After working in President Ronald Reagan's administration, Kudlow moved to Wall Street and, though he never completed a master's program in economics and policy at Princeton University, served as chief economist at Bear Stearns.

Trudeau "holds a press conference and says 'the insulting, ' he said that 'Canada has to stand up for itself, ' he says that we 'are the problem with tariffs", Kudlow told CNN host Jake Tapper.

Kudlow, who was born Jewish but converted to Roman Catholicism, was appointed head of the National Economic Council in April.
