Trump to leave G7 summit early amid feud with Trudeau, Macron

US President Donald Trump has thrown two days of diplomatic talks into chaos, insulting Canada's Prime Minister and tweeting that the United States would not endorse the joint communique that leaders from the Group of Seven nations negotiated at this weekend's summit.

Within minutes of the official release of the document, Trump attacked Trudeau on Twitter over what he described as the prime minister's "false statements" during the closing news conference - and the president announced the USA would no longer endorse the communique.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the final communique had been agreed by all the seven countries.

Speaking on US broadcaster Fox News, US trade adviser Peter Navarro blamed Canada for the disastrous ending to the G7 summit. The president is flying to Singapore to meet with North Korea's Kim Jong Un.

Trump added: "Very dishonest & weak". Kudlow suggested on "Face the Nation" that Mr. Trump saw Trudeau as trying to weaken his hand before that meeting, saying the president won't "allow the people to suddenly take pot shots at him". "Canadians are polite, we are reasonable, but we will also not be pushed around".

The prime minister also said Canada would "move forward with retaliatory measures on July 1, applying equivalent tariffs to the ones that Americans have unjustly applied to us".

Larry Kudlow, Trump's top economic adviser, took things further Sunday morning, saying on CNN's "State of the Union" that Trudeau's comments amounted to a "betrayal".

Donald Trump and the White House are going after Justin Trudeau for this G-7 remarks over USA tariffs.

Trump left the G7 summit in Canada early, then wrote on Twitter that Trudeau's remarks, including that his country would not be pushed around, "were very dishonest and weak".

Kudlow said Trudeau had engaged in a "a sophomoric political stunt for domestic consumption" and should apologize.

The office of German Chancellor Angela Merkel also said it stood by the communique.

Trump reacted swiftly onboard Air Force One as it traveled to Singapore for the historic U.S.

Internationally, one European diplomat says the rest of the G7 will carry on despite the president's online attack against Trudeau and his decision to pull out of the final G7 communique. "Don't blame Trump. It was Trudeau who started blasting Trump after he left, after the deals had been made". Trudeau told reporters that the statement was supported by every member, but Trump's Twitter message Saturday withdrew US support for the communique.

The president warned America would win any trade war if they tried to retaliate against new tariffs on imported steel and aluminum.
