Plus, there's always a chance that Apple will introduce some new hardware. It didn't catch on, and Apple has scaled back its advertising ambitions since then to focus on ads in its App Store.

The initiative, called "Digital Health", will monitor how much time users spend on devices, but it's unclear if it will also include tools that help users silence their phones using new gestures or settings, or otherwise disengage from their devices. There are rumours that Apple will be doing some form of integration between iOS and macOS apps, but it's not confirmed if we will actually see this announced at WWDC 2018.

There's a major afternoon of Apple news ahead as the U.S. technology giant opens its doors to the WWDC 2018 Developers Conference.

The Wall Street Journal throws its support behind that idea, saying in a new report that Apple's focus on quality is real.

Apple may finally loosen the leash on the NFC chips in its iPhones and Apple Watches in iOS 12.

Tim Cook and the rest of the Apple clan will take to the stage at 6pm BST (10am PDT, 7pm CEST) tonight to discuss its latest software-based innovations.

There's no official word on what's coming to this new operating system although some reports are suggesting Apple is concentrating on making major improvements to security and stability rather than adding a plethora of extra features.

There are not many leaks about watchOS 5, except for a new watchface that is inspired by the pride movement.

Google introduced a similar feature earlier this year after Silicon Valley insiders started to reveal how its most famous companies used tricks to get us hooked on their products.

There are various reports, including one from Bloomberg, saying that this year's WWDC will be "hardware-less".

Here are just some stuff we expect Apple to unveil tomorrow at WWDC 2018, and needless to say, there are many other things the company will talk about. Expectations are also high about the introduction of iPhone SE 2 at the conference.

Conferences such as this can also act as a competitive yardstick to show how firms are progressing on developing technologies.

Although there will be a huge amount of excitement around any new devices from Apple, the main feature of today's event is likely to be software.
