Roman Abramovich rejects Chelsea bid by Britain's richest man Jim Ratcliffe

Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich center applauds at the end of the English Premier League last round soccer match between Chelsea and Sunderland at Stamford Bridge stadium in London Sunday

The report claims that Great Britain's richest man Jim Ratcliffe - the boss of multinational petrochemicals giant Ineos - has made a bid for the West Londoners, which was promptly turned down by Abramovich.

Purchasing the Blues would cost Ratcliffe over £1bn but the bid was rejected by our Russian owner as he made it clear he is not looking to severing any ties with the Premier League club, despite recent issues.

The Russian billionaire has propelled the Stamford Bridge club to become one of Europe's biggest teams during his 15 years in charge, winning five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three league cups, one Champions League and one Europa League titles throughout the period of his ownership. Approaches from China have also reportedly been rejected.

Some, however, wondered whether Chelsea FC would've been better off under Ratcliffe's patronage.

Ratcliffe is a Manchester United fan but now holds a season ticket at Stamford Bridge. Last season he was also a guest at the club's Cobham training ground.

Last month's Sunday Times rich list valued Ratcliffe's wealth at £21.05bn - more than double Abramovich's £9.3bn valuation.

"Shelling out KSh 270 billion or so would seem like a drop in the ocean for Jim but at the moment he is torn about what to do", noted a close pal of Ratcliffe, who prefers to remain anonymous.

It means there's been speculation that Abramovich could up sticks after buying Chelsea for £140million in 2003. After pulling the plug on plans to renovate Stamford Bridge, speculation has arisen over the 51-year-old's future at the helm of the club.

'We can not comment on rumour and speculation, ' he said.
