The "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull" actor was in Canada for a groundbreaking for a new complex that will feature a Nobu restaurant, hotel and condos, according to the CBC. Trump tweeted, adding that Trudeau was "Very dishonest & weak".

Echoing Trump's sentiments, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro also spoke harshly about Trudeau on Fox News over the weekend.

De Niro, speaking Monday in downtown Toronto where he's launching a major development alongside celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa, called Trump's behaviour "a disgrace".

But De Niro went one step further and crushed all restraint.

De Niro was on stage at the Tonys to introduce Bruce Springsteen, whose spoken-word-into-"My Hometown" performance is a whole other conversation that you should really consider having today. "I'm gonna say one thing: Fuck Trump".

"I know what's you're thinking... but after De Niro, CBS told us to do something drastic", Groban said while dressed in Bareilles' costume from the nominated Waitress.

"It's no longer down with Trump".

This isn't the first time the actor has expressed his feelings about Trump, in the run up to the 2016 election he made a video in which he called him a "pig" and a "bullshit artist".

When the clapping subsided, De Niro then called on people to vote in the USA midterm elections in November and praised Springsteen for his own political activism. "Boy, do we need that now!"

The network was airing the 2018 Tony Awards on a 10-second delay and was able to censor De Niro's comments on the live broadcast.

De Niro's negative opinions about Trump are nothing new.

As Ruhle talked to Elise Jordan and Mark Thompson about this, she said that "I understand the frustration and outrage around the president".
