Resident Evil 2 Remake Revealed, January 2019 Release Date Confirmed

Capcom has revealed a first look at Resident Evil 2 remake from Sony's E3 2018 stage, confirming a January 2019 release date in the process.

Capcom has not released the direct feed trailer yet, so below you can find a video captured from Sony's E3 2018 conference. The preview was, to put it mildly, stunning.

The same can't be said for the Resident Evil 2 Remake, which opens its gameplay trailer with the death of a rat and a security guard thanks to its own version of the infected - the traditional zombie. At the time of publication, it doesn't appear that the preorders are live, but keep an eye out - they should be showing up any time now. But now there's a second trailer that actually features more action, as we get to see some gameplay for the first time ever.

Also added is real-time damage to zombies, so if you use a shotgun on one of them, their bodies will show the effects immediately and continue to degradate.

The appearance of an original PlayStation is just one way that the Resident Evil 2 remake is paying homage to the original game.

A whole new perspective - New over-the-shoulder camera mode and modernized control scheme creates a more modern take on the survival horror experience and offers players a trip down memory lane with the original gameplay modes from the 1998 release. In addition to huge visual improvements, fans of the old game will now be treated to new twists and turns, and even "a new way to play". Like the original, the player will be able to play through separate campaigns headed by Leon and Claire. Will they make it out alive?

Resident Evil 2 introduced characters who would go on to become some of the most iconic and beloved heroes in Capcom's history: rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield, who are thrust together by a disastrous outbreak in Raccoon City that transformed its population into deadly zombies.
