Relay for Life celebrates and remembers

Teams from around the county will participate in the walking event and related fundraising activities.

The relay does not yet have a detailed schedule, but events throughout the afternoon will include a cake walk and a 5K Glow Run. "I lost both my parents to cancer".

"Million Dollar Fitness has helped me move on and look to the future", she said.

"Cancer has touched all of our lives in one way or another, whether it has taken someone we love from us or we have been blessed to have someone stay here a little longer", Craft said. Between 4-5 p.m., elementary students were invited to participate as part of a "mini-relay".

At 9 Saturday night the lights will go down for the ceremony leading up to the closing ceremony at 11.

Funds raised during this event help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.

In 2015, the latest statistics available, there were more than 550 new cancer patients diagnosed in Clearfield County according to ACS. Donations will be accepted for games and activities.

"Everything has turned out great so far, better than I could have hoped for".

"I know first hand how devastating cancer can be", said Cox.


Gardiner believes the relay does a number of good things for students.

"It teaches students that they can make a difference since they hear stories from survivors and the stories of how research and funding helps".

Led by Mark and Stephanie Bross, the team hosts an annual Spring Fling event featuring a dinner, raffle and auctions.

Coinciding with the race at the athletic ground, Relay for Life will witness Tsheten Dorji with his team walk from Paro town from 4am in the morning to Thimphu.

The traditional survivor lap will take place at noon.

Among the survivors on hand was Steve Clark, who was Leeds-Grenville's MPP until the start of the current provincial election campaign, and is now seeking re-election to the newly-named riding of Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. "I have seen folks like the legendary Boxcar Willie to Sherry and JoDee Herschend, as well as a lot of folks who have names you might not know, or aren't as recognizable, but fought the fight, nonetheless". "Students participate in Relay because it is a way for us as high school students to become heroes and positively affect our world". I am blessed that my cancer was caught in time.

Gardiner is also a survivor.

"And, I hit it hard", Wellington said.

"I'm so incredibly thankful for that service and all those wonderful people I talked to during those rough nights of my life", Betler said. The event has been an annual tradition ever since. "I think it will just grow and grow".
