A raccoon stranded on the ledge of an office building in St. Paul, Minnesota, is captivating the world after it started scaling the skyscraper. Workers in the office building, whose windows are sealed shut, anxious as the critter scuttled past their offices and rested on window ledges.

"One of my colleagues spotted the raccoon on, kind of the ground floor, sitting on a ledge on Monday - it looked like a brown lump, nearly like a cat sitting there", Evan Frost told the BBC in the early hours of Wednesday.

The building bandit spent Tuesday going up and down the floors, often stopping to nap on the window ledges. The raccoon, animal-control authorities said, will be trapped and aided upon reaching the roof. "I had to go back inside because my break was over", she said.

As the sun set in St. Paul, Minnesota Tuesday, this raccoon settled into his temporary home. Around 2:30 a.m., the raccoon scaled the top of the UBS building and the experts were there to capture it.

Many citizens posted on Twitter they were concerned for the raccoon's safety and were anxious it had not eaten since it started its journey.

According to Minnesota Public Radio, which dubbed the raccoon #MPRRaccoon, the animal escaped to the roof of the two-storey building after spending much of Monday tucked away on the ledge.

The little animal was trending under #MPRraccoon on Twitter after the MPR radio station opposite the high-rise for much of Tuesday.

"I made a big mistake", said an afternoon post on a Twitter account created for the raccoon before it climbed down a few floors later in the day. The drama started after maintenance workers removed the creature from the roof of a St Paul office block.
