The OPP says the bus drove off the highway and struck a rock cut.

Provincial police say a 54-year-old Chinese man has died after being injured in a tour bus crash in eastern Ontario on Monday.

McNamara said one air ambulance has already left the scene with one injured passenger bound for Ottawa, and another is en route from Toronto.

According to OPP, the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Prescott are closed due to the collision.

The hospital in nearby Brockville said on Twitter that it had received five patients, all in critical condition.

"Our teams are working hard with the folks that we've received and there's all hands on deck for the moment", she said.

An air ambulance has also been dispatched to the scene and Ornge officials have warned that as many as 30 people have been hurt, some seriously.

"We have a Mandarin translator onsite to support them", it added in a post.

Maclean's magazine reports the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's most recent data reported no crashes involving Union Tour Express vehicles, but a March 18 inspection of a bus with the same licence plate as the vehicle that crashed on the 401 reported "No Or Defective Bus Emergency Exits". He did not know the age of the bus involved in Monday's crash.

The bus was sitting in the ditch, up against some rocks, he said. I noticed several police and paramedics on site and was able to see the majority of passengers outside of the bus. There are reports of traffic delays in the area.
