Telltale nabs yet another big license, is working on a Stranger Things game

Update: Netflix reached out to us with more specifics, pointing out that it has no intention to get into the "gaming" industry outright, stating that it does acknowledge their increasingly cinematic nature.

Story Mode is an interactive story taking place in the Minecraft world and following Jesse who is trying to save the world.

[Netflix's version of Minecraft: Story Mode] will play similarly to titles like Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale and Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile, which let younger viewers choose how the story unfolds.

Shortly after the release of Stranger Things: The Game on mobile, Sony announced a PS4-exclusive Stranger Things game in development for PlayStation VR.

"Minecraft: Story Mode is a licensed 5-episode interactive narrative series coming to our service this fall", Netflix said in a statement. There's a broad spectrum of entertainment available today. Sources told TechRadar that Minecraft: Story Mode will appear in a five-part episodic form and Netflix confirmed to them that the game will appear "in an adapted form". Telltale is making a game based around Stranger Things, it confirmed, but it won't be streamed through Netflix.

It seems as though this has always been in the works, considering that Netflix itself launched a free-to-playStranger Things: The Game to promote Season 2 in October past year. This is an "interactive narrative story", an extension of the interactive videos that Netflix already has on its service. This won't be the first game inspired by the hit Netflix show. But if you were hoping this represented a first step toward the streaming of modern "AAA" games, the blockbusters like Assassin's Creed or Destiny, keep waiting.

Telltale, which largely works on narrative-focused games that challenge the player to advance the story along themselves, have also worked on video game adaptations of such franchises as Game of Thrones, Guardians of the Galaxy and Batman. TechRadar's sources suggested that an announcement of the partnership "could happen any day".

"And for us, we're looking at that". Stranger Things: The Game is available for free and is heavily influenced by retro games from the 80s like The Legend of Zelda.
