Kudlow hospitalized for heart attack, Trump tweets ahead of Kim summit

U.S. President Donald Trump says Kudlow suffered a heart attack on June 11.

As the world eagerly awaited the landmark meeting between Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the US President briefly interupted the media circus, taking to Twitter to reveal one of the White House's top economic adviser's had suffered a heart attack.

Later, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, who was traveling with the president, issued a statement that said Kudlow's doctors said he had a "very mild heart attack".

After Mr. Trudeau reiterated at the G7 on Saturday that Canada would impose retaliatory tariffs in response to Mr. Trump's metal levies - and the President accused Mr. Trudeau of being "weak and dishonest" - Mr. Kudlow disparaged the Prime Minister in surprisingly personal terms.

Kudlow's condition wasn't immediately known.

For five years before his White House appointment in March, Kudlow hosted a show on CNBC on business and politics, and he's worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of NY.

The Washington Post reported that Kudlow's wife, Judith Kudlow, told the newspaper, "He's doing fine" and the doctors are "fabulous".

Larry Kudlow has been working behind the scenes to hammer out trade deals with China and to save NAFTA from collapsing. Yet Kudlow has defended Trump's trade policies in public since his appointment.

Before Trump hired him, Kudlow was a commentator and host on CNBC.

Inside the White House, he's seen as an affable senior staffer who has great personal chemistry with Trump and can go on television easily, given his years as a CNBC commentator.

Kudlow, a wry and upbeat speaker, has also adopted some of Trump's hard-line rhetoric while working inside the West Wing. His recovery has always been a source of pride for him and his friends, contributing to his optimistic outlook.
