Cricket Ireland hopeful of Lord's Test against England

One eagle-eyed viewer spotted a motivational message written on the handle of Buttler's bat today, that appears to say "fuck it".

LEEDS: Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed insisted he was proud of his youthful side even after an innings and 55-run defeat at Headingley denied them a Test-series victory in England. Buttler wrote the "F" word and when cameras zoomed in, it got the Twitterati talking.

Most fans would have taken Pakistan's 1-1 series draw against England before the series began but were left disappointed in the way the side surrendered their 1-0 lead.

Resuming the day on 302-7, with a lead of 128, England enjoyed a strong start to the day thanks to Jos Buttler.

Then, early in the second session, they lost three wickets for one run in 14 balls to be 79 for seven.

After England's disappointing and humiliating nine-wicket defeat to Pakistan at Lord's last week, Vaughan said on his BBC radio show that despite the team having two experienced bowlers in the form of Broad and James Anderson, England failed to threaten Pakistani batsman on home turf and ergo the pair should be dropped. He was a fantastic captain to me, he gave me a great opportunity and I like sharing a glass of wine with him, he's great company.

Overall there were still plenty of plus-points for Pakistan, not least the bowling of seamer Mohammad Abbas who took a match-winning eight for 64 at Lord's.

At this stage, no batsman in the innings had scored a fifty, although Bess had made a commendable 49 as nightwatchman following a half-century on debut at Lord's.

A brief but thrilling passage of play ended with Buttler unbeaten five short of a career-best when Anderson was last out, edging Hasan Ali to slip in mid-morning.

"It meant we couldn't capitalise on a good batting track", the wicket-keeper explained. "Inconsistency is what comes from a young team, as annoying as it is", the former South Africa and Australia coach added.

Pakistan had moved on to 83 for three after lunch when the 20-year-old Bess finally grabbed his first Test wicket.

But Bess and Malan batted confidently against Pakistan's four-man seam attack and also read well the googlies and legbreaks of Shadab Khan.

Imam-ul-Haq drove his first ball Sunday for four, but five balls later Bess had him lbw for 34 to a delivery that skidded on.
