Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hit back at Yaya Toure over racism accusations.

Ivorian worldwide midfielder Toure had told France Football magazine earlier this week that he had questioned whether his skin "colour" had contributed to him being little used by Guardiola during City's record breaking run to the Premier League title last season.

Toure added: "Actually I want to be the one who breaks the Guardiola myth a bit".

How will Yaya Toure be remembered at Manchester City?

Ahead of the match, Guardiola was full of praise for the 35-year-old.

"He's too intelligent to be caught". I came to wonder if it was not because of my colour. He will never admit it.

Guardiola says Toure "knows that I'm not racist" and did not raise the issue during their two years together at City.

Guardiola did not acknowledge Toure's comments at a golf tournament in Spain on Tuesday, but did respond in an interview with TV3 on Saturday. "But the day he picks a team with five Africans in, I promise I will send him a cake!"

When the subject was brought up, Guardiola was reserved in his assessment, telling This Is Premier League: "I would say we made the best year in the Premier League ever".

In his career with the club, he won the Premier League three times, the League Cup twice and the FA Cup too.

Toure, who also played under Guardiola at Barcelona before the Catalan sold him to City, pointed to the treatment his compatriot Wilfried Bony received when Guardiola arrived at City. "He never told me face-to-face".
