Brazil forward Neymar says referee should have ruled out Switzerland's equalizer

Neymar has called for referees at the World Cup to "do their job" after he was targeted throughout Brazil's 1-1 draw with Switzerland on Sunday.

The five-time champions were held to a 1-1 draw by Switzerland yesterday, a few hours after four-time champions Germany were beaten by Mexico 1-0.

Brazil opened scoring on 20 minutes from Philippe Coutinho's long range strike that beat the Swiss' goalkeeper. Mexican referee CÈsar Ramos dismissed complaints that Zuber had shoved defender Miranda before getting to the corner from Xherdan Shaqiri.

The 26-year-old was fouled 10 times on Sunday, a record since the turn of the century, and the most at a World Cup finals since England striker Alan Shearer was fouled 11 times against Tunisia at France '98.

"I hope that people will take notice of us now and take us seriously, sometimes there's a lack of recognition towards us and that's a pity because we played very well".

Switzerland concentrated their defensive effort and kept Brazil's risky attack under wraps, though the Nati fans held their breaths in the 88th minutes on Neymar's header, which Sommer was able to collect comfortably despite the star having room.

Brazil looked comfortable after Philippe Coutinho's brilliant first-half opener, dominating play against a limited Swiss side that looked to frustrate them from the off.

"Until we scored the goal there was a lot of pressure".

"The team was looking to move the ball and to work our rivals, but this will serve as a lesson, we have to be a bit cooler and more precise".

"It's not up to me, there are three professionals working there", he said, per Reuters (h/t ESPN FC). "I told him no, I don't want any characteristics of diving in my team", he added.

Brazil and Switzerland are tied in second place with a point apiece, while Costa Rica is at the bottom with zero points.

"I am very proud of my team's discipline, it was everything we talked about", he said. "My expectation of course was to get a victory and so, of course, I'm not happy with the result".
