Kashmiri siblings beaten up near home, called 'terrorists'

The case was registered on the complaint filed by one of the female victims, whose identity was not disclosed by the police.

The incident took place on Thursday night and as per the complaint of the victim, a group of 30-40 people carrying hockey sticks and batons thrashed them while they were walking on the street after dinner.

According to the youth, the residents hurled anti-Kashmiri abuses at them.

The victims alleged that they were targeted because they were Kashmiris.

In the video, the woman's screams for help can be heard, while an irate mob ruthlessly kept on beating her with sticks. "I suffered a fractured hand", he said.

The man, who has been staying on rent in Sunlight Colony's Siddhartha Extension for over seven years, alleged, "On Thursday, my fiancée, who is from Iran, had come to meet my sisters at home". The authenticity of the video has not been verified yet.

"They beat one of our women up and abused us".

Patnaik said the alleged attack in Sunlight colony had nothing to do with the origin of the J&K victims. The family had also asked for police protection. However, the residents of the locality have accused the Kashmiri men of misbehaving with the residents, which led to an altercation. "Their injury marks are self-inflicted", Pandey was quoted as saying. "Since this whisper started spreading in the colony, the persons started feeding dogs under the garb of animal welfare; they do not allow residents to move in the colony at night".

Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said: "We have registered a case on charges of sexual harassment, making sexually-coloured remarks, criminal intimidation and using words and acts meant to insult the modesty of women against the accused".

According to a report published in NDTV, The Kashmiri family that was assaulted told the police that they had been harassed in the last few months. "Both parties have indulged in similar actions in the past, following which cross cases were registered against them".

He had said it was a case of old enmity.
