Sharif's statement about Mumbai attack was 'misreported': Pak PM

Nawaz Sharif turns down NSC's statement

Nawaz Sharif turns down NSC's statement

"I can say with assurance that no one in Parliament has read the newspaper interview of the former premier of which an irate is being created", he said in front of the lawmakers.

"The meeting reviewed the recent statement in the context of Mumbai attacks, as it appeared in the Daily Dawn of 12th May 2018, and unanimously termed this statement as incorrect and misleading", it said in the statement, issued after the meeting held at Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi's residence.

"Militant organisations are active".

"Even at that time, the same things ─ getting our house in order ─ were being discussed in an NSC meeting", he pointed out, referring to a meeting in which, Dawn had reported, the civilian government had informed the military leadership of Pakistan's growing global isolation and sought consensus on several key actions by the state.

PM Abbasi negated the term "traitor" for Nawaz Sharif adding that "nobody needs a certificate of patriotism from anyone".

Abbasi said there was no tension between the civil and military.

The NSC meeting was called on the suggestion of Pakistan Army days after former premier, Nawaz Sharif delivered a statement that was spun by the Indian media as a tacit admission of Pakistan's involvement in the 2008 attacks that left 166 people dead.

The World Bank has denied as "incorrect" media reports in Pakistan that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif allegedly laundered $4.9 billion to India. Explain it to me.

It has asked in the application to declare "trust" in party chief Nawaz Sharif and party President Shehbaz Sharif. He said this controversial statement has the potential of leading the country from being grey-listed to blacklisted.

Nawaz again rejected the NSC statement today, describing it as "painful and regrettable", and said that it was "not based on facts". And the person who is asking this question has been labelled a traitor.

"At that time, this matter was turned into 'Dawn leaks'", he said.

"Pakistan is not becoming isolated, it is already isolated".

Nawaz's remarks in addition to sparking a strong reaction from the opposition and media, also sent the PML-N scrambling in attempts to explain his remarks.

Mr Sharif is facing ire for "harming national interests" from opponents as well as some of the estranged leaders from his Pakistan Muslims League-Nawaz (PML-N) party for allegedly supporting the Indian narrative on the attack case.

Separately PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said the former premier does not respect the state or institutions.
