Royals request 'respect' amid report Thomas Markle won't attend wedding

Soon-to-be Duchess Meghan Markle has been consistently grabbing headlines for her royal duties and her new role post marriage. Meghan's father Thomas Markle is reportedly on his way to hospital again.

"I hate the idea of missing one of the greatest moments in history and walking my daughter down the aisle", Markle was quoted as telling the website.

The palace refused to confirm whether her father would be attending the wedding on Saturday.

The Mail on Sunday, a British media outlet, published photos and a surveillance video that it claims show Markle Sr., a former lighting director in Hollywood, staging photos in Rosarito, Mexico, where he now lives. Apparently spending 20 minutes on the computer reading news stories about the pair, the photographs were later distributed to worldwide media. Separate photos also emerged of Mr Markle being measured for a wedding suit and also exercising in a park. All in all, a cute story about an excited father ready to see his daughter married.

The backstory is that he reportedly made a deal with a photographer to stage paparazzi photos of him getting ready for the wedding. "My father does not speak to my brother! my brother is a lying scumbag to suggest that my father should apologize about anything", she tweeted Monday.

He told TMZ that he did it to help recast his image, but that he deeply regretted the decision.

She also didn't blame him for the staged photos.

Thomas also said that his daughter called him on Monday, but he missed the call.

He was seeking to redress damage to his image by "paparazzi who have photographed him in the most unflattering circumstances", says the website.

"They're showing a rather different way of being royal". Since retired, he has been living in Mexico. He told me that he had a heart attack six days ago and he is not going to be at the wedding. He confirmed to TMZ he won't be attending the wedding.

Questions are now being raised about who will walk Meghan down the aisle if Mr Markle doesn't attend.

"I have to say I am entirely the culprit".

"After the first couple of times I guess she started giving a hug to the guys, which wasn't exactly protocol and at some point somebody said to her, "people don't usually do that" and she said (shrugging) "I'm American, I hug". They don't photograph you buying vegetables and PH water.

"Actually she has a large family who were always there with her and for her", Ms Grant responded on Twitter. There's a lot of scrutiny that it was money motivated, it was not.

Markle, 36, has not responded to the scandal directly, but the palace pleaded for privacy.

Britain's royal family requested "understanding and respect" be extended to Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, amid the "difficult situation".
