It will either be the republican incumbent Deb Fischer - or her democratic challenger Jane Raybould. Her primary challengers were Jack Heidel, a retired math professor from Omaha; Dennis Frank Macek, a writer and retired air conditioning technician from Lincoln; Jeffrey Lynn Stein, a professional photographer from Omaha; and Lincoln businessman Todd Watson.

Ricketts ran against Krystal Gabel of Omaha, a registered Republican who has volunteered to create the Legal Marijuana Now Party of Nebraska. The candidates were Kirk Penner, an Aurora small business executive; Larry Lee Scott Bollinger, a property manager and author from Alliance; and Arron Kowalski, a Grand Island farmer. No other candidates are running for the office.

Eastman will face off against Rep. Don Bacon, the Republican who unseated Ashford in 2016.

(Lincoln, NE) - Governor Pete Ricketts will face a state lawmaker as he seeks a second term. Raybould emerged from a field of four candidates to win the Democratic nomination.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had added Ashford to its "Red to Blue" list, which highlights promising candidates and gives them access to key financial and organizational support. Bob Krist of Omaha to oppose him in November's general election.

Nebraska voters started heading to the polls at 8am this morning to cast ballots in the state's primary election.


There were plenty of contests, topped by contested nomination races in both parties as Gov. Pete Ricketts and U.S. Sen.

It's primary election day in Nebraska.

That includes races from the local level all the way up through state and federal. All in all, the 2nd is 6 percentage points more Republican-leaning than the nation as a whole, according to FiveThirtyEight's partisan lean metric.2 Democrats now lead the generic ballot by that same 6 points.

Four Democrats are competing for their party's nomination.
