According to the AJC, the Atlanta artist was arrested outside his home's gated community by the Henry County Police Department on misdemeanor charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

Last weekend, T.I. saluted his wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle with a Mother's Day shout-out.

His lifestyle change involved becoming more of a social activist figure and using his platform to become a political influence, which makes Wednesday's arrest particularly concerning.

Following news of the arrest, T.I.'s attorney, Steve Sadow, provided the following statement to ET, alleging his client was the victim of a wrongful arrest. The rapper had allegedly forgotten his key but the security guard would not let him into the gated neighborhood, which resulted in an argument. This led to an argument, during which T.I. reportedly asked, "Don't you know who I am?" before calling his friend to back him up.

Both Holmes and T.I. were ultimately arrested.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, called the arrest "small potatoes" in comparison to what he's been through in the past. Holmes was arrested on outstanding charges out of Clayton County and for not having proof of auto insurance.

He has since posted bond and is out. He claims he returned to his gated community after a recording session and found the guard asleep on the job.

"It took Tip some time to wake up the sleeping guard", Sadow wrote. He says the rapper identified himself and sought entry, but the guard refused. He says the guard eventually called the police, but says the law enforcement near his home are "white cops in a very white area", and he was promptly arrested. A security guard at the guard shack initially wouldn't let them in either, the online report says. Attorney Sadow says the officers had no interest in "hearing Tip's side of the story and wrongfully chose to end the situation by arresting Tip".
