DelTondo's death comes just six months after the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School teacher was suspended from her job over a leaked police report

Rachael Elena DelTondo, a Pennsylvania teacher who was recently suspended from her position after a police report regarding her having an encounter with an underage student from another school came to light, was killed by shooting late Sunday night this past Mother's Day in the Aliquippa neighborhood, just outside of Pittsburgh.

The unredacted police report is believed to have contained personally identifying information that is not readily available to the public through open records releases, including parties' social security numbers. Police have not named a suspect in her death and would not comment to the media about whether they had interviewed any suspects.

After coming home from an ice-cream shop at around 11:00 p.m., DelTondo went up to her mother's driveway on Buchanan Street and was gunned down. According to the report, DelTondo and the 17-year-old were found in a parked vehicle near the Aliquippa hospital around 2 a.m. Police officers were patrolling the area at the time when they found them. Police have ruled the death a homicide. They noted that "the windows were steamed over and the engine was not running". The school suspended DelTondo a month after receiving the tip.

DelTondo reportedly told officers at the time that she was talking with a 'former student'.

CBS Pittsburgh met DelTondo previous year when she was the subject of a CBS Pittsburgh report as a bride-to-be in a dispute over her custom wedding dress.

She defended herself at the time by saying that the pair were just talking and that the teen was no longer a student. The report concluded that "Deltondo was advised that there was better places to just talk with a former student", and further stated that the responding officer hoped not to find her in the same predicament again. Neighbors said they heard 10 to 12 gunshots.

A police incident report revealed officers discovered the teacher with the boy at approximately 2 a.m.in a parked vehicle near Aliquippa Hospital, according to The Beaver Countian. In fact, the police report wasn't public knowledge until the media and Pennsylvania Cyber officials received an anonymous email in October 2017 that included the 2016 Aliquippa police report, Times Online reported.

Though DelTondo was never charged in the incident, she was suspended in November 2017 after Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School Chief Executive Officer Brian Hayden contacted ChildLine, which "is part of a mandated statewide child protective services program created to accept child abuse referrals and general child well-being concerns, and transmit the information quickly to the appropriate investigating agency", according to the organization's website.

Another neighbour, Dan Casper, added: "I don't know why that happened". However, investigators have not revealed information about the case at this time.

But sources say it also prompted a state police investigation of the Aliquippa Police, and that DelTondo cooperated. It was handmade by a NY designer and required a non-refundable $4,000 deposit.

The DelTondo family still paid for a custom-made wedding dress, but still had to take the New York-based designer to court after he did not send them the dress, and refused to refund them. She added that her fiancé did not know where she was, and would only be "mad" if he found out.
