Now that the 2017/18 season is basically over and the summer transfer window is approaching, rumours of Neymar leaving Paris Saint-Germain for Real Madrid are gathering pace.

Lionel Messi has revealed he has spoken to Neymar about joining Real Madrid and described the possibility of such a move as "terrible".

In an interview with TyCSports, Messi opened up on discussions he has had with Neymar.

He said: "It would be awful, because of all that Neymar means for Barcelona". It would be a huge blow for everyone. It would make Madrid even stronger from a football point of view.

And Neymar also thinks moving to Real would boost his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or. He holds the notion that he has nothing to prove by being successful at another club. Neymar is undoubtedly the best player who has evolved in France.

Rivaldo is still reeling from their failure to win the competition on home soil back in 2014, but believes Brazil are heading to Russian Federation as the front-runners and that Neymar can make a name for himself by delivering the trophy for his country. "What I miss from Barcelona and about Barcelona is these two [Messi and Suarez], due to the joy we had on a daily basis".

He is now in a race to be fit for the World Cup while at the same being linked with a mega-money move to Zinedine Zidane's Spanish League champions and Champions League finalists.

However, Rivaldo believes the 26-year-old is in the prime condition of his life and should look to leave the French capital in order to win honours more befitting of his level. In the overall assessment, it's a good season that ended up being a little spoiled by the injury I had.

Will it be Real Madrid or Manchester United for Neymar?

Zinedine Zidane insists "every important player wants to play for Real Madrid", but refused to entertain the idea of launching an audacious bid for Neymar.
