Of course there are still a lot of questions surrounding Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 including the return of Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson as his character has been teased as a possible goner all season long. They are likely behind the greenlit sixth season, as well.

Of course, the renewal is a bit of a mixed blessing, since it only included a 13-episode order, far shorter than the standard 22 that the show enjoyed throughout its first five seasons. "I don't have any plans to think of Season 6 as the last season".

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is returning.

Don't miss the Season 5 finale this Friday at 9:00 PM ET on ABC. Those who are still watching have praised the series' creative upswing over the past couple of seasons, and the series has indeed started venturing beyond the confines of Earth to find new stories worth telling. Though it can be a bummer for fans, it's not much of a surprise to see the series get shuffled around the schedule to a less competitive period. If next season is indeed the final go-around, the show wouldn't even be able to address the conclusion of the Infinity War storyline until Avengers 4 hits theaters next May.

With the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 finale (ironically titled "The End") airing on Friday, May 18, fan speculation has reached a fever-pitch over whether the catastrophic conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War will be portrayed on the small screen.

ABC announced Monday it renewed its Marvel action-drama Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a sixth season.
