Brendon McCullum's bold prediction: 'Test cricket won't be around in time'

Speaking about this T20 Challenge game, Rajeev Shukla, Chairman, IPL, said, "Even as IPL continues to roll like a well-oiled machine, over the last couple of weeks, efforts were made to put in place a similar structure for women cricketers". "And whilst we all adore Test cricket, and for me it is the purest form of the game - I'm loyal to it - I'm also a realist that people are turning up and watching T20."He added that in the long term, T20 franchises will own players and they won't release them for Test matches". The Kiwi who is known to be one of the visionaries of the game, recently said that Test cricket would not be able to stand the test of time. "People don't have four or five days to commit to test cricket", he told Cricket Monthly.

McCullum, who played 101 Test for New Zealand before retiring from worldwide cricket in 2016, told Cricket Monthly that interest in five-day matches was dying.

McCullum predicts a huge shift in the game where franchises will have the say over whether players will be allowed to play internationals.

The Committee of Administrators formed to implement the Lodha Commission reforms and supervise the day to day functioning of the Board of Control for Cricket in India has moved into the driver's seat to run the cricketing affairs in the country. Just behind Chris Gayle, McCullum is the 2nd all-time run scorer in T20s with over 9000 runs against his name.

"We need players [to] make up India A. Once we have those many players, then I think it would be wise for us to have an IPL", Raj said in March.

The 36-year-old is still playing cricket, but as a Twenty20 (T20) globetrotter playing in numerous leagues around the world. "I think once we do separate it even more, then the skill level of T20 cricket will go to a whole new level altogether". "So I'll do that, and then I'd like to transition into some coaching stuff, because I think the IP - especially in T20 - the IP of three hundred and something games is quite valuable, and also I like the idea that I can help people".
