The Gavitt Tipoff Games schedule begins on Tuesday, Nov. 13, with Georgetown playing at IL and Wisconsin traveling to Xavier.

The Illini are 1-1 in the Gavitt Tipoff Games, losing during the inaugural year at Providence and beating DePaul last season. Palmer was fifth in the Big Ten in scoring at 17.2 points per game while adding 4.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for the Big Red.

Villanova Wildcats forward Omari Spellman (14) and Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree (21) battle for a loose ball with Michigan Wolverines forward Moritz Wagner (13) and Zavier Simpson (3) during the second half in the championship game of the 2018 men's Final Four at Alamodome.

In 2017-18, the NCAA basketball world was treated to a national championship game that featured teams from the Big Ten (Michigan) and the Big East (Villanova).

Among the 16 participating schools, six played in the NCAA Tournament past year and three played in the NIT. In two additional Wednesday contests, Seton Hall travels to Nebraska and Marquette plays at Indiana. Rutgers will host St. John's on November 16. The series will span eight years, with games played at home sites.

Played in honor of David Gavitt, the first commissioner of the Big East, this event is entering its fourth season. Teams from both conferences already meet in some traditional rivalry games, and those matchups will continue in the upcoming seasons.

As part of the series, Ohio State and the other teams in the Big Ten will participate at least four times in an eight-year period. Gavitt passed away in 2011 and was named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
